Questions

Which format should I choose?

JPG works everywhere and suits photos. PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency — good for logos and screenshots, but photos get larger. WebP gives smaller files than JPG and keeps transparency; all modern browsers support it.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Add your WebP images, keep JPG selected and download the results. Each file keeps its name with the new extension, for example photo.webp becomes photo.jpg.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white when you convert to JPG. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Your images are converted by your own browser, on your device. They are never sent to a server, and we never see them.

Is photo information kept?

The colour profile is kept, so colours look the same. Other hidden information — such as the camera model, date and GPS location — is removed. JPG photos from cameras and phones are turned the right way up first.

Can I convert HEIC or GIF files?

Not yet. Shrinkal converts JPG, PNG and WebP images. On an iPhone, adding a photo with the “Choose images” button usually gives you a JPG automatically.
